Here at Paakuma, kindergarten has a club that earns money to do different activities. One way that we earn money is collecting box tops. Classes in different grades have volunteered to collect for us. We have set up different collection due dates and prizes for those that collect the most. Our first collection due date is scheduled for October 13. All participating classes will turn in their Box Tops and they will be counted and tallied by our wonderful Booster Club. Results will be posted for teachers to see on or around October 20 and winners announced. If you'd like to help Booster Club cut, count and sort the Box Tops, please let me know so I can communicate that with them and they can let you know more details. I am posting on here our collection sheet. I have some printed and I will post the file here so you can print.

Here at Paakuma' K-8, we encourage our students to aim for college. Every teacher was asked to pick a college to represent their classroom. I chose CSUMB, California State University, Monterey Bay. My little sister, my husband's brother and my brother-in-law's girlfriend all attended this new addition to the CSU family. Small and in a great location. Every Pep Rally day (first one on 8/25), I ask students to wear the school colors of blue and gray.
Vowels (vocales) are very important in words. We have been focusing on the sound each letter makes. Unlike English, vowels in Spanish only make the long sound; basically, they say their name. You have probably heard your children recite the Sonidos iniciales song these last 3 weeks. If you haven't, play the video in the blog post below. Focus on the first 5 letters. Here are pictures of the cards they see with the Estrellitas program along with the cards from our adopted curriculum.
Here is a few videos we've watched in class.
